The Rutgers Cooperative Extension, in cooperation with the Rutgers Equine Science Center and New Jersey Horse Council, has scheduled a horse management seminar for Feb. 8. This year’s program will focus on "Grazing Rewards and Concerns: How and Why to Manage Your Pastures."

The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Rutgers Cook Campus Center.

Featured speakers and topics will include:

• "Nutritional Benefits of Pasture and When Pasture is Not Enough"—Steve Duren, PhD, of Performance Horse Nutrition
• "Pasture Problems: Safe Grazing Tips for Managing Equine Metabolic Disorders"—Bridgett McIntosh, PhD, of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
• "Equine Grazing Behavior"—Amy Burk, MS, PhD, of the University of Maryland
• "The Latest Grazing Research You Can Use—A Panel on Rotational vs. Continuous Grazing"—McIntosh, Burk, and Laura Kenny of Rutgers University
• “The Fences Are Up—Now What Do I Do? Basic Pasture Management"—Bill Bamka of the Rutgers University Cooperative Extension of Burlington County
• "Got Weeds? Understanding and Managing Weeds in Your Pastures"—Donna Foulk of the Pennsylvania State University Cooperative Extension of Northampton County
• "Danger in the Grass—Plants That Are Toxic to Horses"—Foulk

The cost is $55 for adults and $25 for children, students, or seniors if the registration form is post marked on or before Jan. 23. After that, rates increase to $65 and $35, respectively. A continental breakfast and box lunch are included in the program fee
