More than 30 horses are receiving rehabilitative care after being seized from an Anderson County, Texas, property.

A written statement from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said an animal control deputy conducting a welfare check discovered several allegedly maltreated horses on July 2. Acting on a warrant, investigators seized all 32 horses residing on the property the following day. They also found several other horses’ remains on the property, the statement said. The investigation is ongoing.

The horses were transported to an Anderson County Humane Society affiliate pending a hearing’s outcome.

Possible criminal charges against the animals’ owner are pending
