Humane Group President Arrested for Alleged Horse Maltreatment

John Gautreaux and Pamela George—who served as president and cruelty investigator for the Lafourche Humane Society—were arrested and charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals in connection with the alleged maltreatment of a dozen horses.

The president of a humane group has been charged with animal cruelty for allegedly maltreating horses on her Louisiana property.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Lieutenant Brennan Matherne said, last month, deputies began investigating allegations that a dozen horses residing on a property in Lockport appeared to be malnourished.   During the investigation, one horse was euthanized due to his condition, and personnel found another two horses’ carcasses one the property.

The nine surviving horses remained on the property. Investigators provided food resources, and the Humane Society of Louisiana is monitoring their condition, Matherne said
