As of May 6, 138 Mustangs have died of equine influenza at the Cañon City Wild Horse and Burro Facility.
Two horses have died, and one horse is receiving treatment.
Trained by Eric Reed and ridden by Sonny Leon, Rich Strike covered the mile and a quarter in 2:02.61 over a fast track and produced an upset second only to Donerail’s triumph at 91-1 in 1913.

State agriculture officials confirmed samples from the Monroe County broodmare were PCR-positive, and that other mares in the community also lost foals.
