The affected horses reside in two different counties.
This marks the best team finish at a Paralympic Games in the program’s history.
The organization strongly recommends organizers cancel or suspend competition when the air quality index reaches 151 or above.
The filly was not vaccinated against the mosquito-borne neurologic disease.
In the four months since the MILEPET scanner’s installation at UC Davis Veterinary Hospital, veterinarians have imaged 100 horses; more than half were performance and pleasure horses.
The affected gelding’s vaccination status is unknown.
The Foundation for the Horse is working with veterinary groups to support those in Louisiana affected by Hurricane Ida. More help is needed; donations are welcome.
The affected county first discovered WNV-infected mosquitoes about Aug. 1.
The state veterinarian has recently confirmed nine horses with West Nile virus.
Twenty-six additional horses were exposed.
This is the state’s fourth confirmed equine case of WNV this year.
This marks the state’s 15th confirmed equine case of EEE in 2021.
The mare was not vaccinated for the incurable and potentially deadly disease.
The state veterinarian encourages horse owners to work with their veterinarians to protect their animals from this serious mosquito-borne disease.
