Countdown to the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games
For the first time ever, the Fédération Equestre Internationale World Equestrian Games (WEG) are being held in France, in a city along the English Channel called Caen.
Caen. I have no idea how that’s pronounced in English.
It's hard enough in French. It's kind of like “caw” except at the end you have to get whiny with your nose like you’re trying to stifle a sneeze. But Caen just happens to be pronounced exactly like the French word, "quand," which means "when." So if you get lost on your way to WEG and have to ask for directions—if you say it right—it'll sound like you’re saying, "Where's when?" (If you don't say it right, you’re going to end up repeating it 15 times with 15 different versions of "caw" that are going to make people think what you really should be looking for is a hospital.)
But today, at less than a month before WEG’s opening ceremonies on August 23, the fact that Caen sounds like "When?" couldn’t be more fitting
