BLM Gathering Wild Burros in Central Nevada

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) expects to begin a bait and water trap gather on or about July 10 within the Bullfrog Herd Management Area (HMA), in central Nevada. The BLM plans to gather and remove approximately 300 wild burros from the range.
The BLM Battle Mountain District Tonopah Field Office (TFO) is conducting the gather operation, which is expected to last approximately one month. The Bullfrog HMA is located approximately 90 miles southeast of Tonopah on public lands and surrounds the town of Beatty, Nevada, located in Nye County.
The BLM has determined that the burros in the Bullfrog HMA have been impacting private lands and creating public health and safety issues as burros travel near roadways. The large number of burros has also resulted in landscape degradation and had negative impacts to other plant and wildlife species that share the habitat
