An Ohio man is facing charges after his horse was discovered missing a leg.

A written statement from The Humane Society of Morrow County, Ohio, Board of Directors, said the agency received a report about an injured equine at a property near Chester Township on April 5. The responding humane officer subsequently discovered that the injured horse was missing a leg, the statement said. Following an investigation with cooperation from the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, the humane officer obtained a search warrant, the statement said.

Morrow County Sheriff John L. Hinton said sheriff’s department personnel later arrested the animal’s owner, Mark Hill, and charged him with misdemeanor cruelty to animals.

On April 6, Hill and his attorney appeared in the Morrow County Municipal Court and posted his bond for the charge, Hinton said.

Hinton declined to comment further.

Meanwhile, Hill remains free on bond and was unavailable for comment.

The case remains pending.
