A Southern Arkansas University (SAU) scholarship named for Credit Card, a Quarter Horse stolen and killed in 2011, has been awarded for the first time. 

In November 2011, five Quarter Horses belonging to student members of the school’s collegiate rodeo team were taken from the Mulerider Stables at the university’s Magnolia, Ark., campus. A horse trailer and a variety of equestrian equipment also taken from the stables were recovered shortly after the incident. Four of the missing horses were recovered in McCurtain County, Okla., on Nov. 15. The remains of the fifth horse, Credit Card, were discovered in McCurtain County.

On Oct. 30, 2013, SAU spokesman Aaron Street said that TyDaniel Haller had been awarded the first Credit Card Memorial Scholarship. Haller is an SAU junior studying agriculture and business and a calf-roper on the Mulerider Rodeo team, Street said.

“He won the scholarship because he was the high-point rodeo team winner,” Street said. “The scholarship is awarded every year to the returning high-point winner on the SAU rodeo team
