The mother of the woman accused of stealing rodeo horses at Southern Arkansas University (SAU) is now facing charges in connection with the incident. William "Billy" Hamilton, Jr. has also been charged in the case.

In November, five Quarter Horses belonging to student members of the SAU collegiate rodeo team were taken from the University’s Mulerider Stables at the Magnolia, Ark., campus. Four of the missing horses and the remains of the fifth horse were later recovered in McCurtain County, Okla. Jaci Rae Jackson of McCurtain County, was later charged with six counts felony theft of property in Arkansas, and three felony charges in Oklahoma including bringing stolen property into the state, knowingly concealing stolen property and cruelty to animals in connection with the thefts. Jackson’s cases remain pending.

A spokesperson for the McCurtain County Court Clerk’s Office said that on June 4, Wendi Cox, Jackson’s mother, surrendered to McCurtain County law enforcement authorities. She was subsequently charged with cruelty to animals and knowingly concealing stolen property. The charges are connected to a 15-year-old sorrel gelding named Credit Card whose mutilated and dismembered remains were discovered by McCurtain County law enforcement personnel shortly after the theft.

Cox was unavailable for comment
