Rachel Alexandra isn’t the only female racehorse traveling around and beating the boys these days. Champion Standardbred trotting mare Buck I St Pat (her owners are from Ohio, the Buckeye state) will travel to Sweden tomorrow and race on Sunday in the Elitlopp, a prestigious international trotting competition.
Buck I St Pat has won 34 of 60 races in her career, and she holds the record as the fastest female trotter in history on a five-eighths-mile track.
Her breeder and co-owner, Ron Fuller, DVM, of Ohio, said the mare was imprint trained as a baby. The mare was invited to this race last year, but the owners decided not to go. Fuller said this year he and his partners–Howard Taylor, Ed Gold, and Abe Bason–are looking forward to seeing their mare trot her way into history.
