Two jockeys who were thrown from their horses on opening day at Portland Meadows have been released from a Portland hospital, track officials said. One rider’s horse had to be euthanatized.

Jose Rivera Jr. was released Sunday night after hurting his shoulder and collarbone during the seventh race that afternoon. His horse had to be euthanatized. Rider Jerry Remer, who was hurt in the same spill, was released Monday morning, but still has soreness in his neck, back and left leg, said Patrick J. Kerrison, a Portland Meadows spokesman.
