So far, this blog has been following life at an equine hospital. But what narrative is complete without love? In this case I am talking about vet love.

Veterinarians often marry each other. A 2007 Australian study of veterinarians found that fifteen years after veterinary school, nearly a quarter of graduates had married other vets. At Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, for example, the setting for the book Equine ER, surgeon Dr. Rolf Embertson is married to Dr. Claire Latimer, the hospital’s specialist in veterinary ophthalmology. Dr. Scott Pierce and Dr. Debbie Spike-Pierce met at Rood & Riddle. Dr. Peter Morresey’s wife works for the competition in Lexington, Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, and the spouses of both Drs. Scott Hopper and Alan Ruggles have veterinary degrees. Dr. Bonnie Barr is married to a broodmare manager, who of course isn’t a vet, but he still knows what a red bag is and what needs to be done about it
