I have been volunteering as a vet at the Kentucky Horse Park since we moved here in 2000 for various events.  I have been the vet running the D box for the driving day marathon for four years. The D box is a mandatory 10-minute hold box before the obstacle course on the marathon day.  We have to check the soundness of the horses entering the box and the temperature, pulse, and respiration upon entering the box and before leaving the box. It is my job to make sure that the horses are sound and that their physical parameters are recovering before they are allowed to leave for the obstacles. I have the help of one other vet and a whole crew of assistants in the D box
