The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) announced Aug. 27 that another horse in that state has tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE). This is the second case of EEE in Virginia horses this year.

The horse, an American Quarter Horse stabled in Chesapeake, was euthanized due to its illness, and was necropsied at the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Rollins Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, in Raleigh, on Aug. 20. Later lab results confirmed EEE.
