EHV-1 in Ohio Horses: Six Cases Confirmed

Four of the six EHV-positive horses showed respiratory signs of disease (three of which have died) and two are showing neurologic signs.

Six horses in Crawford County, Ohio, have tested positive for equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1), the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported.

On May 3, the EDCC said the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) had confirmed neurologic EHV in five horses on a single premises.

“Three affected horses are deceased,” the EDCC said. “All showed severe respiratory signs, one older horse collapsed before death. An additional positive horse has shown rear-leg weakness and urine dribbling but is recovering.”
