Park rangers are hoping the public can help them identify those responsible for the death of a horse in the Mark Twain National Forest, in southern Missouri.

Forest Service spokesperson Cody Norris said that, on March 3, a local couple driving down a Forest Service road found the remains of a young horse tied to a tree. He estimated the animal had been dead for three days before it was discovered.

There was no evidence of a gunshot wound or other injury, said Norris, and the case is currently under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the incident should call the Mark Twain National Forest supervisor at 573/364-4621
