Belt buckles won at horse shows by convicted embezzler Rita Crundwell are the next assets to go to the auction block, along with artwork and household items. The assets belonging to the former high-profile Quarter Horse breeder and exhibitor are being sold to fulfill a restitution agreement with the city of Dixon, Illinois.

In 2012, a federal grand jury indicted Crundwell for misappropriating more than $53 million from the city, where she’d served as comptroller since the 1980s. Federal agents charged her with one count of wire fraud and, under a plea deal, Crundwell admitted to stealing the funds to finance her Quarter Horse breeding and showing business. She also agreed that she owed the city $53,740,394 in restitution. Crundwell was sentenced to serve more than 19 years in federal prison.

While Crundwell remains incarcerated U.S. Marshals sold assets including her Quarter Horse herd, semen and breeding assets, breeding royalties, and more than 700 personal items.

Next, 150 belt buckles Crundwell received for top horse show finishes will be sold during an online auction taking place Nov. 17 through Dec. 1. More than 70 pieces of artwork, crystal horse sculptures, antiques, and a variety of household items will also be auctioned during the sale, said Jason R. Wojdylo, chief inspector for the U.S. Marshals Service
