A Pennsylvania woman is facing multiple animal cruelty charges in connection with the alleged maltreatment of 29 Morgan Horses.

Amy Kaunas, executive director of the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, said that in December 2012, humane officers removed five Morgan Horses from a property in Palmyra, Pa. The animals were allegedly underweight and living in filth, Kaunas said. Another horse was discovered in critical need of veterinary attention and was subsequently euthanized due to its condition, Kaunas said. The horses’ owner, Rebecca Roberts, was later charged with five counts of animal cruelty in connection with that removal, Kaunas said.

On Jan. 11 authorities removed another 24 horses from the same property, Kaunas said. Roberts was subsequently charged with another 24 counts of animal cruelty, Kaunas said.
