Necropsy Reveals Louisiana Cart Horse was Not Maltreated

A horse that collapsed and died on a street in New Orleans’ French Quarter on Dec. 18 was not maltreated before its death according to results of a necropsy performed on the animal.
The 10-year-old Draft horse belonging to a private owner was pulling a cart on Bourbon Street when it collapsed and died. The animal was transported to Louisiana State University for necropsy.
"Initial results revealed that the horse was not abused, malnourished, or mistreated," said Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA) spokeswoman Katherine LeBlanc. "The horse did not show signs of being overworked."
New Orleans-based veterinarian Allison Barca, DVM, reviewed the initial necropsy results and concurred that no signs of abuse or overworking were present in the horse, LeBlanc said
