Two new veterinarians have joined in the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), mission to improve the health of horses.
Travis Henry, DVM, is a Fellow in the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service at the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Henry’s expertise is welcomed by the Large Animal Clinic, where he will treat equine patients and train resident veterinarians to handle equine dental health issues. He will also be learning the latest dental techniques from our veterinary faculty experts in the Small Animal Clinic.
Henry graduated from the Michigan State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993 and has been a practicing veterinarian for 17 years. He has held a long-standing interest in equine dentistry and oral surgery, and has completed specialized training in these areas. Since 2003, he has owned and operated Midwest Equine Services in Elkhorn, Wis., a practice dedicated to providing veterinary dental care for horses in the Midwest.
Additionally, Claudia Sonder, DVM, a 1995 graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, has been appointed assistant director of the UC Davis Center for Equine Health. Working with Director Gregory Ferraro, DVM, she is responsible for day-to-day management of the facilities, fund-raising for endowments, research development, and related duties. Sonder adds her expertise and experience to the intramural grants selection process. She is working on developing improvements to the testing program for contagious equine metritis. Sonder also works with Ferraro as a liaison among industry representatives and veterinary faculty to find solutions to equine health and welfare problems
