A movie based on the life of Temple Grandin, PhD, who has long been a proponent of humane horse and livestock handling, might finally be moving forward, according to a report in the hollywoodreporter.com. The basis of the movie is that Grandin overcame the limitations of autism to become a highly respected livestock handling resource and a leading speaker and writer on autism. One of the executive producers, Emily Gerson Saines, has a son with autism.


Grandin has often been a source for The Horse on matters concerning humane equine transport.


According to information from her Web site templegrandin.com, Grandin “is inarguably the most accomplished and well-known adult with autism in the world. She is known world wide for her work on the design of livestock handling facilities. In North America half the cattle are handled in systems she has designed.


“She has been featured on major television programs, such as ABC’s Primetime Live, the Today Show, Larry King Live, 48 Hours, and 20/20, and written up in national publications such as Time, People, Forbes, U.S. News and World Report, and the New York Times. Among numerous other recognitions by media, Bravo Cable did a half-hour show on her life, and she was one of the ‘challenged’ people featured in the best-selling book, Anthropologist from Mars
