Three horses in Dalton Township, Mich., were found dead on a farm on March 13, and Muskegon County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating. Investigators were quoted as saying the horses seemed to be malnourished. One horse’s remains was taken to Michigan State University for necropsy.

The horse’s owner reported the horses died in December, possibly of rat poisoning, but denied any neglect. No charges had been filed at the time of the report in several area news outlets. One article stated the owner’s intention was to dig a hole and bury the dead horses on the farm.
