A key lawmaker says a House budget proposal would not fund additional projects at the Kentucky Horse Park in preparation for the 2010 World Equestrian Games. But he adds it would include money for bird flu medicine.
The plan would not include money for the horse games because it could be dealt with next year, said Rep. Harry Moberly, the House Appropriations and Revenue chairman. Legislators are expected to review a proposal late Tuesday that calls for additional state spending beyond the budget that’s currently in place, Moberly said.
Officials are expecting an additional $400 million–which has not been appropriated–to flow into state coffers over the next two years. Moberly said the House proposal would include saving some of that money in the state’s “rainy day fund.”
Governor Ernie Fletcher has asked lawmakers to fund various items, including a $38.2 million project at the horse park that would include a new outdoor stadium, improvements to an indoor arena and road work. Fletcher also asked for $5.8 million to purchase antiviral drugs to guard against a possible bird flu outbreak
