Repairs continue at Ellis Park, the western Kentucky racetrack that was heavily damaged by a tornado the morning of Nov. 6.
Ellis Park sustained damage to its terrace grandstand, paddock, jockeys’ quarters, racing office, infield tote board, and barn area. Officials said repairs are either under way or nearing completion on the areas hit hardest by the storm.
Live racing will resume as scheduled July 19.
“Repairs to the track are on schedule and are moving forward,” said Brian Elmore, recently named vice president and general manager at Ellis Park. “I am honored to be part of a team of such dedicated employees who have worked so hard in rebuilding our historic track. We are looking forward to another summer of racing.”
A new roof is in place on the racing office, and the rebuilding of the second floor of the jockeys’ room is under way. Roof repairs have been completed in the Sky Terrace, which sits atop the grandstand, and interior repairs in that area are about 75% complete. The Sky Terrace will open May 6, Kentucky Derby (gr.
