Horses that were reported killed near Harlan, Kentucky, have been accounted for, according to state police investigating the case.

Published reports indicate that, on Aug. 22, Harlan Humane Society Chief Executive Officer Marcella Chadwick said that the humane group received reports from the Bledsoe area near Harlan that 28 wild horses—including mares and foals—were shot and either killed or left to die. Published reports said the humane group offered a reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the deaths.

On Aug. 25, Kentucky State Police investigating the incident released a written statement about the case.

In that statement Trooper Shane Jacobs, public information officer for the Kentucky State Police in Harlan County, said state police Detective Craig Miller and Trooper Kenny Sergent responded to a call alleging that 28 wild horses had been shot in the Dingo community of Harlan County on Aug. 22
