Norman W. Rantanen, DVM, PhD, MS, ACVR, was honored for his significant impact on the development and training of equine practitioners during the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ (AAEP) 49th Annual Convention in New Orleans, La. He received the Distinguished Educator Award, to be presented during the President’s Luncheon on November 24.

Rantenen has devoted his equine veterinary career to the specialties of radiology and diagnostic ultrasound. A graduate of the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, he has worked in both academia and private practice. In 1992 Rantanen moved his consultation practice from Lexington, Ky., to Fallbrook, Calif., where he provides diagnostic services to San Luis Rey Equine Clinic, as well as to equine practitioners locally and internationally. In addition, Rantanen teaches short courses in diagnostic ultrasound for veterinarians and technicians and is currently sponsoring a radiology resident. He is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology
