More than 30 allegedly malnourished Arabian horses are receiving rehabilitative care after officials removed them from a farm in Oak Harbor, Ohio.

On Friday, Animal welfare authorities from the Humane Society of Ottawa County discovered 37 animals allegedly living in filth without food or water. One horse was dead and another five were euthanized at the scene. The remaining 31 horses were moved to the Sandusky County Fairgrounds stables for veterinary and other rehabilitative care.

"Water buckets were empty, and stall walls had been chewed down. The highest body score we have is 2, and some have hoof infections from standing in feces," said Holly Simpson of Arabian Rescue Midwest, an agency assisting in the horses' care.

Humane Society Prosecutor Chris Marcinko declined to name the farm's owner, but said he expects to file charges connected to the case sometime today
