Several equine veterinary and horse welfare groups are hoping to help victims—humans and animals alike—of a volcano eruption in Guatemala.

Last weekend Volcán de Fuego began erupting, burying surrounding villages in ash and rock and releasing volcanic gasses into the air. Reports suggest that the human death toll has reached at least 99 and additional people remain missing. Aid for human victims is pouring in from around the world, and the horse community hopes to add to that assistance.

On June 6, the American Association of Equine Practitioners announced that the Texas Equine Veterinary Association (TEVA) Foundation has donated $5,000 to relief efforts and the AAEP Foundation matched the donation
