Texas law enforcement authorities are hoping the public can help them identify whoever shot two horses grazing in their pasture.

Roger Wade, senior public information officer for the Travis County, Texas, Sheriff’s Office, said that around noon on May 15, a passerby reported seeing vultures near a property in East Austin. A second caller made a similar report that evening. A subsequent investigation revealed that a Thoroughbred and an Arabian had been shot and killed.

“The horses did not belong to the same owner, and none of the other horses in the same pasture were injured,” Wade said.

Wade declined to disclose the location of the gunshot wounds or what caliber gun was used in the shootings, but said the incident is probably not a hunting accident
