The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) confirmed on Oct. 3 that the state’s 14th horse tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) this year. Affected horses have been confirmed in 11 counties. The 3-year-old Quarter Horse stallion is the first horse from Sacramento County to test positive in 2019.

The horse started experiencing clinical signs on Sept. 21 that included ataxia (incoordination), fever, and head tilt. His vaccination status is unknown, and he is reported as recovering.
