If you’ve traveled with your horse this year or regularly visit TheHorse.com, chances are you’ve seen several health alerts reporting equine West Nile virus (WNV) cases being confirmed in various states. West Nile is transmitted to horses via bites from infected mosquitoes, and vaccines have proven to be an effective prevention tool.

Is your horse up-to-date on his West Nile virus vaccine? We posed this question to our readers in last week’s online poll. More than 800 people responded, and we’ve tallied the results!

Of the 832 respondents, 713 (86%) said yes, their horse is up-to-date on his WNV vaccine, while 83 individuals (10%) said their horse is not. Some 19 respondents (2%) said they are not sure if their horse is up-to-date on his WNV vaccine, and the remaining 17 respondents (2%) had other responses
