Equine VSV Cases Confirmed in Three Additional NM Counties

In its May 7 situation report, the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed three newly infected counties in New Mexico with equine cases of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV): Bernalillo, De Baca, and Grant, each with one confirmed equine premises.
New Mexico was the first state to have VSV confirmed in 2020, with one premises identified in Dona Ana County on April 13. The state currently contains six VSV-affected counties (Bernalillo, De Baca, Dona Ana, Eddy, Grant, and Sierra) with a total of 10 confirmed positive and two suspect premises.
Premises with confirmed positive and suspect cases are quarantined for at least 14 days from the onset of lesions in the last animal affected on the premises
