An attending veterinarian and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) officials confirmed a Broward County horse with West Nile virus (WNV) on Aug. 20.

The vaccinated 14-year-old Warmblood mare began showing clinical signs that day. Signs included difficulty chewing, fever, hyper-reactivity, impaction, lethargy, muscle fasciculations (twitching), neck stiffness, somnolence (sleepiness), temporary diarrhea, balance issues, and weakness. She is reported as recovering.
