Benefits for Horse Industry in Small Business Stimulus Bill
The American Horse Council reports that President Obama signed the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act of 2010 into law on September 27, 2010. The bill is intended to help small businesses and create new jobs. The bill continues the bigger write-off for horses and other property purchased and placed in service by a horse business that were originally included in earlier stimulus bills.
Champion Thoroughbred Mare Rachel Alexandra Retired
Rachel Alexandra, the filly who shocked the racing world in 2009 by winning the Blackberry Preakness Stakes and defeating male horses in two other grade I races en route to an undefeated 3-year-old campaign and Horse of the Year title, has been retired, majority owner Jess Jackson announced Sept. 28.
WEG: Jerich Parzival Eliminated From Dressage
Jerich Parzival, ridden by Adelinde Cornelissen of the Netherlands, was eliminated during Tuesday morning’s team Grand Prix at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG). The elimination occurred following movement number 5 of 33, the halt and rein-back, when the ground jury observed blood in the horse’s saliva.

Congressional Bill Impacts Horse Buyers
The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the amended Small Business Jobs Act (H.R. 5297) by a vote of 237 to 187, affirming changes made to the bill by the U.S. Senate on Sept. 16 when the Senate passed the measure. President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law on Sept. 27. The White House pressed Congress for swift action to bring relief to America’s small businesses.
