  1. Personally, I feed my horse a diet of alfalfa only. She has never experienced these stones and she is over 13 years old!! I think you should reconsider, Cheri, before commenting this alfalfa slander as it is truly a food from the gods. Amen

  2. I just read the article about feeding alfalfa. I do not take issue with any of the opinions stated. But, I think one big problem was not addressed at all. It is the reason we feed very little alfalfa to our herd of 70-80 horses that we keep year ’round, many that are 5-6 generations of our breeding that trace back to my first mare acquired in 1966. That is the problems of stones (enteroliths) in the horse’s gut that are usually fatal and can only be treated by abdominal surgery. We have never seen horses with abdominal enteroliths that ate grass hay. They have ALL been seen in horses that ate diets of predominately alfalfa. Would your author care to address this problem?
