Boehringer Ingelheim Announces 2023 Advancement in Equine Research Award Recipients

DULUTH, GA (December 5, 2023) – Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health announced the recipients of the 2023 Advancement in Equine Research Awards during the 69th annual American Association of Equine Practitioners Convention in San Diego, CA, November 29 – December 3. The recipients were chosen based on their research proposals which included subject matter focused on equine infectious disease and equine asthma syndrome.

Recipients are the following:

Kate Hepworth, DVM, DACVIM, Katie Sheets, DVM, PhD, DACVIM,

Katarzyna Dembek, DVM, PhD, DACVIM and Nathan Nelson, DVM, MS

North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC

Kelsey Hart DVM, PhD, DACVIM and Clare A. Ryan, DVM, PhD, DACVIM

University of Georgia, Athens, GA

Brian Gilger, DVM, MS DACVO, DABT and Darby Roberts*, BS

North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC

Nicola Pusterla, DVM, PhD, DACVIM

University of California, Davis, CA

*Resident/PhD student proposal

With the inclusion of this year’s recipients, Boehringer Ingelheim has given more than $800,000 towards the advancement of equine research since 2011.

Our dedication and passion for the advancement of equine research makes Boehringer Ingelheim a global leader in its field,” said Steve Grubbs, DVM, PhD, DACVIM, equine technical manager for Boehringer Ingelheim. “Previous award recipients have made novel research advancements in equine infectious diseases and equine asthma syndrome and we anticipate that this year’s recipients will follow suit.” 

Those eligible to submit proposals were veterinarians, diagnosticians, and public and private researchers in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
