The Unwanted Horse Coalition’s (UHC) National Speaker Program has been in operation since early 2009 with approximately 120 speakers in the database. This program provides equine events around the country with UHC volunteers to speak about the issue of unwanted horses and what it means to "Own Responsibly." The UHC’s National Speaker Program has provided a speaker for 15 events in 2011 to date.

Cathy Ruprecht, from Marquette, Mich., represented the UHC at the Marquette County 4-H Horse College earlier this year. Ruprecht observed that this event was the ideal chance for the UHC to get involved and inform the public about the issues of unwanted horses and responsible ownership.

"It was a good opportunity to inform parents who may have been considering an involvement with horses for their young children to consider all aspects of horse ownership," said Ruprecht. "I believe parents are focused on getting the horse but do not think through the whole aspect of ownership."

Along with the Marquette County 4-H Horse College, the UHC has provided speakers for the World Trotting Conference, Virginia Farm Bureau, Iowa Horse Fair, El Paso County Fair, Maine Standardbred Breeders, Loudoun County Horseman’s Meeting, and Equifest. The Unwanted Horse Coalition will also have a speaker attending the 2012 World Horse Expo
