Twenty-eight horses were escorted off a farm near Norman, Okla., under veterinary supervision after the veterinarian inspected the horses and described several of them as “significantly undernourished.” Police also found carcasses of two horses that had been “dead for several weeks,” according to a story on NewsOK.com.
Veterinarian Sharon Marshall was quoted in the story as saying, “Unfortunately, this is getting to be all too common.” Marshall attributed problems such as this to the rising cost of horse feed and the ban on horse slaughter.
The article said from one to three horses might have to be euthanized because of their conditions and the economics of the situation in caring for the horses.
No one had been charged in the case at the time of the report
