The South Florida Sun-Sentinel has reported Wellington, Fla., village officials will be closing the village’s horse trail and creating a herpes information hotline.

Village Manager Charles Lynn told The Sun-Sentinel the trail closure is in response to the quarantines imposed due to the outbreak of equine herpesvirus type-1 (EHV-1).

The new hotline will direct callers to sources who can provide information on the virus, including state and local veterinarians, The Sun-Sentinel reported.

“We’ve been coordinating with the veterinarians,” Lynn told the paper. “We want to be proactive.”
