While we are confident that the situation at both Turfway Park and the Western Kentucky Training Center have been satisfactorily resolved; we remain concerned over the apparent spread of equine herpes virus from Pimlico to other racetracks, training facilities and private farms in the Northeastern United States.

With these concerns, Kentucky’s State Veterinarian Robert Stout, has directed the following equine entry restrictions. Effective Immediately (February 10, 2006) Horses will not be permitted entry into Kentucky that have resided or been stabled in Maryland at either Pimlico or Laurel Park since January 10, 2006.

In addition all horses arriving in Kentucky must have the following statement clearly recorded on the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.

The horse(s) listed on this Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) have not originated from nor been stabled on a premise under quarantine or restriction due to EHV-1 or from a premise which has had equine herpes virus diagnosed during the previous 30 day period. Dr. Stout also directed that all horses coming onto a Kentucky racetrack or training facility demonstrate proof of having been properly vaccinated against EHV-1 a minimum of 7 and no more than 90 days of entry
