There have been some significant changes to the spectator-parking and transportation options for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games since the publication of my “World Equestrian Games Preview” story in the July issue of The Horse: Your Guide to Equine Health Care. Let me bring you up to date with the latest.

First, parking. The big news: There is some! The original plan was for no spectator parking at the WEG site, the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, other than for a few well-heeled VIP package-holders. But WEG organizers have since been able to lease property adjacent to the KHP and now will be able to park 10,000 vehicles.

The parking cost will be $20 per vehicle per day, and please note that it’s cash-only.

You still can purchase those premium parking spots near the spectator entrance at the Horse Park. One of those will set you back $100 per day. Buses, RVs, and similar behemoths prohibited. For more information and to reserve a primo parking spot, click here
