The United States has a growing problem with “unwanted” horses–those their owners no longer want for various reasons. This live chat event discussed the scope of the problem and several possible solutions with Drs. Midge Leitch and Tom Lenz.

Midge Leitch
Midge Leitch, VMD, Dipl. ACVS, having closed her referral practice which focused primarily on performance horses in Cochranville, PA, is now a member of the Section of Sports Medicine and Imaging and serves as the Clinician in Radiology at New Bolton Center, Kennett Square, PA.
Tom Lenz
Tom Lenz, DVM, Dipl. ACT, is chairman of the Unwanted Horse Coalition, an organization dedicated to reducing the number of unwanted horses and to improving their welfare through education and the efforts of organizations committed to the health, safety, and responsible care and disposition of these horses. Lenz was the 49th president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, and he has served on the American Horse Council’s Animal Welfare Committee and the Research Committee of the American Quarter Horse Association.
