A Louisiana man is accused of animal cruelty after he allegedly dragged a mare behind his truck.

Patricia Street, supervisor for the St. Landry County, La., Animal Control Department, said officers responded to a report that a mare was dragged behind a truck for about 500 feet on a paved road on March 19. The mare later stumbled into a canal where she drowned, Street said.

Street said the horse's owner Roy Rubin was arrested and charged with animal cruelty on March 20. He is free on bond, she said.

Upon further investigation, St. Landry Animal Control later seized three allegedly malnourished horses also belonging to Rubin, Street said
