Washington state law enforcement authorities are hoping the public can help them identify those responsible for the shooting death of a horse in Skagit County.

Skagit County Animal Control Officer Emily Diaz said officials responded to a report about a horse found dead in its pasture on April 4. The horse was likely shot that day between 12:30 a.m. and 7 a.m., she said. The horse sustained a single gunshot wound to the head, Diaz said, but the caliber of the gun used in the shooting is unknown.

“(The bullet) was not retrieved from the horses head,” Diaz said. “We could not find any casings from the road which is where we thought the horse was shot (from).”

The county sheriff's office has few leads in the case, she said
