WEG: Veterinary Update on Eventing Horses after Cross Country
- Topics: Article
In addition to the injury suffered by Italian eventing horse Iman du Golfe today during the Cross-Country phase of the Eventing World Championships at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Ky., two more horses suffered injuries during the cross-country phase.
Fernhill Clover Mist, ridden by Patricia Ryan (IRL), was injured today while competing in the cross-country phase. An injury occurred to the horse's left hock while he was galloping between fences on course. He was transported to the on-site Games veterinary clinic, where he was examined and medicated before being returned to his own stall. The attending veterinarian expects the horse to continue to improve.
Also Inonothing, ridden by Paul Tapner (AUS), was injured at Fence 13b on the cross-country course. Diagnostic X-rays performed at the on-site Games Veterinary Clinic showed a fracture of the horse's left hind patella (knee cap). The horse is currently resting in his own stall. The prognosis is favorable.
