Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU CVM) and the Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology (CMIB) program are proud to announce the selection of graduate student Alice Stack, MVB, Dipl. ACVIM, by the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation for the Storm Cat Career Development Award.

This award recognizes a young individual who show promise toward a career in equine research. The Storm Cat is awarded annually, and Stack is the sole recipient for 2012. The award is named for the stallion Strom Cat and is underwritten by the family that owned the Thoroughbred.

Stack is researching exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage (EIPH) with Fred Derksen, DVM, professor of large animal clinical sciences and chairman of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, and Ed Robinson, BVetMed, PhD, MRCVS, director of Michigan State's Equine Pulmonary Laboratory

Stack received her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from the University College Dublin School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. She then completed an internship at a racing practice in Dubai before arriving at MSU CVM for a large animal internal medicine residency, which she completed in 2010. She is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Currently Stack is a graduate student in the CMIB PhD program at MSU
