West Yorkshire Police horses are used for high-visibility patrols, ceremonial and sporting events, crowd control, and sometimes in police competitions. Donated horses need to be at least 16.2 hands, sound, and have a good temperament. Every horse will undergo a veterinary exam and be taken on trial patrols, according to the article. Once accepted, every horse is fully trained for his duties
