Stephen H. Bokman, DVM, MS, of Englishtown, N.J., has been chosen as the February honoree of the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ (AAEP) My Vet Matters Contest. Bokman, a racehorse practitioner, was nominated by Ellen Harvey for his volunteer work with the Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF) in Freehold, N.J. Eighty-five veterinarians were nominated for the February award.

In her nomination of Bokman, Harvey told of his 14-year-long dedication to the unwanted horses that reach the retirement facility. Bokman donates his services to the SRF and often finds other veterinarians who will provide care free of charge when a horse needs specialized treatment. Bokman also arranged for a pharmaceutical company to provide short-dated products to the SRF and other adoption and rescue groups in the area
