VNU, the company that purchased Equitana USA and its West Coast regional show, EqWest, announced after the 2000 EqWest show that the California equine exposition would not be renewed for 2001.
“It was a difficult decision, but we couldn’t continue to put the resources toward EqWest that it would take to make the show, on a regional level, what Equitana USA is on an international level, without compromising Equitana USA,” explained Darel Cook, show director for both shows. “We definitely believe there is a strong market on the West Coast, and will consider opening a show there again in the future.”
The decision to cancel EqWest in no way impacts Equitana USA, according to Cook. “We’re sorry to see EqWest go, but it does allow us to focus our attention solely on our flagship show, Equitana USA.”
Plans for the international equine exposition, Equitana USA, are underway for June 14-17, 2001 in Louisville, Kentucky
